Vegard Frihammer appointed new CEO of Vireon

The Board of Directors of Vireon AS has appointed Vegard Frihammer as the company’s new CEO. Frihammer joins Vireon from his position as Vice President Business Development at Corvus Energy Fuel Cell and has previously held several senior leadership roles, including Group CEO of Greenstat. Frihammer joined Vireon on 1 August and will formally assume the role of CEO on 1 September 2026.
He succeeds Per Øyvind Voie, who has led Vireon since the company was established. Voie is stepping down to take up a position outside the hydrogen industry.
Chairman: – An experienced leader for the next phase
– We are very pleased that Vegard Frihammer has accepted the opportunity to lead Vireon. He brings extensive experience from the hydrogen and energy industries, including as Group CEO of Greenstat, and has spent many years helping develop both companies and new green value chains. The Board is confident that he is the right person to lead Vireon into its next phase, says Chairman Knut Flakk.
Sees significant opportunities
Frihammer looks forward to building on the work already accomplished.
– Vireon has established an exciting platform with projects and activities across several Nordic countries and plays a particularly important role as a downstream hydrogen company. The need for hydrogen refueling solutions for heavy-duty transport, shipping and construction machinery will grow in the years ahead, and I look forward to further developing the company together with our employees, customers and partners. Vireon has significant potential, and I am excited to help realize projects that create value and reduce emissions, says Vegard Frihammer.
Thanks to Per Øyvind Voie
The Board would also like to take this opportunity to thank Per Øyvind Voie for his contributions over the past several years.
– Per Øyvind has played a key role in establishing and developing Vireon, first as part of Norwegian Hydrogen and later as an independent company. Under his leadership, Vireon has built a strong project portfolio, established operations in several Nordic countries and positioned the company as an important player in hydrogen infrastructure, while maintaining a sound financial position. The Board thanks him for his significant contribution and wishes him every success in the future, says Flakk.
