New agreement modernises certification and inspection processes for Argentine-flagged vessels, supporting safer and more efficient maritime operations.

Lloyd’s Register has signed an updated agreement with the Argentine Naval Prefecture , reinforcing a longstanding collaboration to strengthen navigation safety and enhance the technical oversight of Argentine-flagged ships.

The agreement updates and expands the framework established between the two organisations in 2017, introducing measures designed to improve certification, inspection and statutory compliance processes in line with international maritime requirements.

The agreement was formalised during a meeting between LR representatives and senior leaders of the Argentine Naval Prefecture, including National Naval Prefect General Prefect Guillermo José Giménez Pérez and National Naval Sub-Prefect General Prefect Alejandro Paulo Annichini. The discussions reaffirmed the shared commitment of both organisations to strengthening technical cooperation and supporting the continued improvement of maritime safety standards.

The updated agreement introduces a number of significant enhancements. These include the removal of restrictions linked to the validity period of statutory certificates issued by LR, providing greater operational flexibility for vessel owners while maintaining robust oversight. The agreement also authorises surveys and inspections to be carried out while vessels are operating within Argentine national jurisdiction, helping to streamline compliance processes and improve service delivery.

In addition, the revised framework establishes clear and standardised procedures for responding to technical failures or situations that could affect a vessel’s statutory status. It also introduces technical and administrative criteria for the granting of exemptions, supporting greater consistency, transparency and efficiency in the application of maritime regulations.
