Naver Cloud and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering will move to build a cloud tailored to the shipbuilding industry. They will jointly build an AI and cloud environment optimized for HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering’s design and production settings, and based on that, they plan to push an industrywide AI transformation (AX) across shipbuilding, from the next-generation ship platform (SDV) to physical AI.

Shipbuilding is an industry that simultaneously requires protection of national core technologies, stable management of ultra-large design data, and implementation of an AI-based production environment. To secure competitiveness in shipbuilding, building AI and cloud environments specialized for the industry is emerging as a new core task.

The companies said the cooperation is meaningful in that, starting with building an industry-specific cloud, it aims to jointly establish a system for using AI across the shipbuilding industry, from next-generation ship platforms to shipyard sites.

Naver Cloud and HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering plan to jointly discover and spread AI use models tailored to shipbuilding to create new cases of AI innovation in manufacturing. To that end, the two companies will build GPU infrastructure optimization and a private cloud operating environment based on an AI factory. On that foundation, they will establish a groupwide AI utilization base at HD Hyundai and, through the formation of a joint CoE (Center of Excellence), also push to internalize AI and cloud operation capabilities.

They will also work together on co-developing a next-generation ship platform, an AI transformation (AX) centered on shipbuilding sites, and physical AI technology cooperation. They plan to jointly design a ship data-based platform and a real-time data processing and control architecture, and to identify and verify AI use models specialized for shipbuilding using AI vision technology and robot operating platforms, thereby strengthening future competitiveness in the shipbuilding industry.

Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won said, “As shipbuilding faces the sweeping change of a global AI transition, it is more important than anything to establish an AI foundation optimized for shipbuilding,” adding, “Together with HD Hyundai, we will build a cloud environment tailored to the shipbuilding industry and go on to create AI innovation models that can spread across other industries.”

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering CEO Kim Hyung-kwan said, “We will build an AI ecosystem tailored to shipbuilding by adding Naver’s AI technology to more than 200 million shipbuilding and offshore databases owned by HD Hyundai,” adding, “We will successfully complete the establishment of an AI-based intelligent smart shipyard and go on to lead the future ship market.”
