Berg & Larsen begins a new chapter as Limassol based maritime professional and investor Jesper Weller acquires the historic Danish maritime company

Berg & Larsen, one of Denmark’s oldest and most respected maritime supply companies, today announced the successful completion of its ownership transition from Søren Kristiansen to Jesper Weller, marking the beginning of a new era for the company while preserving a legacy that spans more than 230 years.
Founded in Copenhagen’s historic Nyhavn district in 1794, Berg & Larsen has remained an enduring partner to the maritime industry through centuries of technological advancement and global change. Today, the company supplies technical spare parts for essential onboard equipment, supporting shipowners, managers and operators across the world.
For the past two decades, Berg & Larsen has been led by Søren Kristiansen, whose ownership has been instrumental in transforming the company from a respected Danish supplier into an internationally recognized maritime partner. Under his leadership, the business expanded far beyond its traditional home market, establishing lasting relationships with customers around the globe while remaining true to the company’s reputation for expertise, reliability and exceptional customer service.
The company’s new owner, Jesper Weller, brings with him both extensive maritime experience and a deep appreciation for Berg & Larsen’s unique heritage. A qualified Marine Engineer and former seafarer, Mr. Weller shares the same professional roots as his predecessor and has spent his career serving the maritime industry from both onboard and ashore.
Looking ahead, Berg & Larsen will continue to build on the strong foundation established over the past 230 years while pursuing new opportunities for sustainable growth. The company’s strategy includes further international expansion, broadening its customer base and continuously developing its product portfolio to meet the evolving needs of the global shipping industry.
“I am taking up this task with great respect for Mr. Kristiansen’s remarkable achievements over the years, and for the professionalism and hard work of the current team,” said Jesper Weller. “The strength of Berg & Larsen has always been its people, its competence and the trust it has earned from customers throughout the maritime world. My ambition is to build on these strengths while ensuring that the company continues to evolve alongside our customers.”
For Mr. Weller, the acquisition also carries deep personal significance. “Berg & Larsen has served at least three generations of my family, all of whom were seafarers in Danish shipping companies. Throughout their careers, Berg & Larsen was a trusted name whenever a vessel needed reliable technical spares and once actually also, sugar and rum. It is with great humility and respect for the many generations before me that I assume the ownership of this remarkable company. I have a clear vision for how Berg & Larsen can continue to create value for customers and remain relevant in the maritime industry for many generations to come.”
Commenting on the transition, Søren Kristiansen said:
“After twenty rewarding years, I am proud to hand over Berg & Larsen to someone who not only understands the maritime industry but also shares the values upon which this company has been built. Jesper’s technical background, international perspective and genuine respect for our heritage give me every confidence that Berg & Larsen will continue to thrive for many years to come. I would also like to thank our employees, customers and business partners for their trust and support throughout my years as owner.”
While ownership changes, Soren Kristiansen stays onboard as CEO and the company’s commitment remains unchanged. Berg & Larsen will continue to provide customers worldwide with the responsiveness, knowledge and dependable service that have defined the company since its establishment more than two centuries ago.
With a history that stretches from the sailing ships of the 18th century to today’s technologically advanced global fleet, Berg & Larsen enters its next chapter with the same entrepreneurial spirit that has sustained the company since 1794: honoring its heritage while embracing the future of maritime commerce.
