HD Korea Shipbuilding localises LNG ship equipment

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has succeeded in localizing core equipment for LNG-powered ships through cooperation with domestic small and medium enterprises.
HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on June 29 that it recently held a ceremony for the final performance verification and type approval certificate presentation of a ‘High Pressure Pump’ for LNG fuel supply in Jinhae, South Gyeongsang Province. The high-pressure pump is a product independently developed by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, and domestic small and medium enterprises such as Pretec and Sungmun participated in the manufacturing and packaging processes.
Major officials attended the event on this day, including Nam Young-joon, Representative of the SD Business at HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, Kim Jung-sik, Representative of the Liberian Registry, Kim Sung-yong, Executive Managing Director of the French classification society Bureau Veritas, Park Hae-heum, CEO of Pretec, and Lee Jae-hong, CEO of Sungmun.
The high-pressure pump market has been led by overseas companies, making the domestic shipbuilding industry reliant on imports, which resulted in limitations such as maintenance issues and supply chain uncertainties. Through this certification, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has secured a foundation for the localization of core equipment for eco-friendly ships and has been able to enhance supply chain stability.
For this certification, related organizations such as the French classification society and the Liberian Registry participated together with HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering from the early stages of development. From the initial development stage, the company conducted test evaluations and reviews considering actual ship operating environments in collaboration with the Liberian Registry to improve stability, and enhanced the completeness of the product through thorough verification by the French classification society.
Nam Young-joon, Representative of the SD Business at HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, stated, “This certification ceremony is a meaningful occasion to confirm the global competitiveness of the high-pressure pump independently developed by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, together with classification societies, registries, and excellent domestic partner companies,” and added, “Based on the verified stability, we will successfully apply it to actual ships to elevate customer service satisfaction to the next level.”
