SKY Perfect JSAT and Avanti sign agreement to acquire Ka-band Communications Satellite “HYLAS 3”

SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation and Avanti Communications have entered into a satellite purchase agreement for the Ka-band* communications satellite “HYLAS 3”, which is currently owned and operated by Avanti in geostationary orbit. This acquisition is part of SKY Perfect JSAT’s broader strategy in the Space Business. Following the completion of in-orbit testing and related procedures, SKY Perfect JSAT will assume ownership of the satellite from Avanti. The satellite is expected to begin operations under the name “JSAT-144D” in early fiscal year 2027.
HYLAS 3 is equipped with Ka-band multi-spot beams, delivering high-capacity communications and flexible network configurations. By combining this satellite with SKY Perfect JSAT’s existing Ku-band* satellite fleet, the company will establish a highly reliable multi-band communications network, capable of meeting increasingly diverse and sophisticated customer needs. The satellite will also support high public-interest applications, including unmanned systems and national security, by providing a stable and reliable communications environment.
The acquisition is part of SKY Perfect JSAT’s mid-to-long-term satellite fleet strategy, aimed at addressing growing demand for satellite communications, including in the national security domain. SKY Perfect JSAT will continue to optimize the roles of its satellite assets while expanding high-value-added services and developing a flexible and sustainable communications infrastructure.
Eiichi Yonekura, Representative Director, President & Chief Executive Officer, SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation
“The satellite communications market is undergoing profound transformation, driven by the entry of new players and growing demand for more advanced services. Through our collaboration with Avanti, we are further enhancing the flexibility and responsiveness of our satellite fleet, thereby strengthening our communications infrastructure to meet a wide range of needs, including those in the security sector. Leveraging our partnerships, we will continue to promote the development of sustainable and reliable space infrastructure, while creating long-term value and supporting continued business growth.”
Avanti Communications Chief Executive Officer Kyle Whitehill
“We are delighted to partner with SKY Perfect JSAT on this important agreement for HYLAS 3. This transaction reflects the strength and reliability of Avanti’s Ka-band assets and highlights the growing strategic value of flexible satellite communications infrastructure in an evolving global market.
By working together, Avanti and SKY Perfect JSAT will help support increasing demand for secure, resilient and high-performance connectivity solutions across government, enterprise and mobility sectors. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and enabling the next phase of innovation and growth in satellite communications.”
