Iro Gidakou
Fleet Operations Manager, Maran Gas

Captain Iro Gidakou is the Fleet Operations Manager at Maran Gas Maritime Inc., bringing over 19 years of experience in the shipping industry, with a strong focus on LNG transportation. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Marine Transportation from the Greek Merchant Marine Academy and an MSc in Shipping and Finance from the Cyprus University of Technology.

Since joining the Angelicoussis Group in 2007, Captain Gidakou has accomplished several significant milestones. She became the first female Captain at Maran Gas and the first woman to command an LNG vessel in Greece and Cyprus. She is also recognised as the first female Captain in Cyprus.

In 2021, she transitioned from a seafaring career to a shore-based role, joining the Angelicoussis Group’s headquarters in Athens as Fleet Operations Manager of Maran Gas Maritime Inc.

A prominent role model in the maritime sector, Captain Gidakou has received multiple distinctions, including the Young Leader Award by YoungShip Cyprus, and she was a finalist in the ExxonMobil Power Play Awards.

Committed to promoting women in the maritime industry—particularly careers at sea—she actively participates as a speaker at conferences and mentors young professionals in the shipping sector.
