During planned dockings, inspections occasionally reveal new findings that require immediate attention. MarineShaft A/S supports shipowners, managers and shipyards with repair and replacement solutions for shaft line and rudder equipment, where delivery time is often a critical factor.

M/V Rolldock Sea

During dry docking in Portugal, inspection of the rudder equipment on M/V Rolldock Sea revealed that the blue fit between the rudder stock and rudder blade cone was below acceptable class tolerance limits.

Repair solution:

Following technical evaluation, MarineShaft suggested laser cladding repair of the rudder stock cone.

The rudder equipment was sent to their workshop in Denmark.

The repair included laser cladding of the rudder stock cone with three layers of Inconel 625 using our robotic laser cladding technology. The repair procedure was approved by DNV.

After laser cladding, the rudder stock cone was machined to its original dimensions and blue fitted to the rudder blade cone. The job also included replacing the rudder stock sleeve. NDT tests were performed by 3^rdparty “Force Technology”.

Short turnaround

Within just 11 days, the complete repair scope was finalized, inspected, and sent back to the shipyard for reinstallation.

M/V Rolldock Sky

Following the completion of the M/V Rolldock Sea project, Roll Group entrusted MarineShaft with a rudder equipment repair for sister vessel M/V Rolldock Sky. This project was also completed within a short turnaround time while both vessels were docked at Lisnave Shipyard in Portugal.

After completion of the two projects, MarineShaft received the following email from the vessel’s superintendent, Mr. Jeroen Versteegt:

“We would like to thank you for your utmost efforts and contribution towards our projects, both vessels RollDock Sea and Sky”.
