Port Captains Club

The Port Captains Club is a non-profit, non-union association with a charter approved by the Piraeus Court of First Instance under decision number 417/1982.

Its foundation was driven by the strong desire of a group of Class A Merchant Marine Captains to create a high-level club composed exclusively of fellow professionals—something that was missing from Piraeus at the time.

The original charter was signed by the 26 founding members on June 21, 1982. The launch was marked by great enthusiasm and high expectations. The first Board of Directors was formed with Captain Priamos Tzimistras as President, who remained in office until 1996.

To house the Club, a large hall was rented on the 3rd floor at 145 Kolokotroni Street, Piraeus. This venue hosted the Club’s activities until 2004. On February 20, 2004, thanks to the generous contribution of our dear friend and great benefactor Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos, then-President Gerasimos Panas signed the contract for the purchase of a new space at 86 Filonos Street, 3rd floor, in Piraeus.

The relocation took place on June 1, 2004, and the official inauguration was held on February 24, 2005. The new privately-owned space gave great momentum to the Club. The number of regular members increased, and honorary membership was awarded to many distinguished individuals from the fields of shipping, science, commerce, and more. Throughout the Club’s history, two amendments to its charter were made by decisions of the General Assemblies and ratified by the Piraeus Court of First Instance.

In addition to its many activities, the Club publishes two high-quality editions: since 1991, the magazine “EXANTAS”, and since 2007, an annual desk calendar. “EXANTAS” offers members and friends a free platform for sharing their work, research, or viewpoints.

At the same time, the elegant design and format of the desk calendars make them both presentable and practical.
