Korean Register (KR) has marked a significant milestone in its European strategy, successfully hosting the inaugural KR North Europe Committee (KRNEC) and a Technical Seminar in Hamburg, Germany, on May 20-21, 2026.

The two-day event was organized to formally launch a committee composed of leading maritime industry representatives from the North European maritime industry, deepening KR’s engagement with one of the world’s most influential maritime regions and showcasing its next-generation technical capabilities.

The KR North Europe Technical Seminar, held on May 20, drew over 60 maritime professionals, with KR delivering a series of presentations spanning its core technical and business priorities. Key topics included the GHG implications of MEPC 84 outcomes, an introduction to KR’s AI-powered maritime platform Marinote.AI, and decarbonization strategies for existing container vessels, alongside overviews of KR’s decarbonization decision-support tools, KR PILOT and POWER.

Henning Gramann, CEO of GSR Services brought an external industry perspective with a presentation on Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) compliance and the evolving landscape of ship recycling regulations, a subject of growing importance across the sector.

The seminar was followed by the formal inauguration of KR’s North Europe and Hamburg office, attended by over 150 guests from across the maritime community. The ceremony featured a reception with Korean cuisine and a live classical music performance, offering a fitting backdrop for networking among industry peers.

The relocation to a larger office in Hamburg underscores KR’s strategic focus on expanding its North European operational footprint to better serve regional clients.

The second day saw the convening of the first-ever KRNEC meeting — a landmark development in KR’s relationship with the North European maritime sector. 11 senior executives from the North European maritime industry engaged in in-depth discussions on pressing issues, including the latest international maritime regulatory developments and practical response strategies.

Mr. Guido Försterling, Member of the Board of Sloman Neptun, was appointed as the inaugural Chairman of the KRNEC, a role expected to provide strong industry leadership as the Committee develops in the years ahead.
