FSRUs Provide Rapid Sea-Based LNG Terminals As AI Expansion Boosts Demand Samsung Heavy Industries said on May 4 that it had secured an order for one LNG-FSRU from an Asian shipowner for 484.8 billion won .

An FSRU is a floating storage and regasification unit, often called a “sea-based LNG terminal,” and is used in regions where energy demand is surging or where it is difficult to build onshore terminals.

In particular, FSRUs, which can be built in a shorter period than onshore terminals and enable the rapid establishment of energy infrastructure, are emerging as one of the key quick solutions for power supply amid the spread of the AI industry.

Samsung Heavy Industries provides integrated LNG solution services with a lineup spanning the entire LNG value chain, from FLNG (production, liquefaction and offloading) to LNG carriers (transportation) and LNG-FSRUs (supply).

A company official said, “Amid growing recent demand for securing energy infrastructure, FSRUs can be the fastest and most realistic alternative,” adding, “We will continue to lead the global market with our strong LNG value chain lineup.”
