HJ Shipbuilding & Construction announced on April 27 that it has secured an additional order for 2 10,100-TEU class container ships worth 357.2 billion won  from a European shipowner. As a result, the company has secured a total construction volume of 4 ships, including 2 of the same vessel type obtained earlier this year.

The newly ordered vessels are based on the 7,700 to 9,000-TEU class eco-friendly container ships developed in-house by HJ Shipbuilding & Construction, and are modeled to the maximum specifications that can be built at the dock of the Yeongdo Shipyard in Busan. They feature an expanded deck and cargo hold space to increase loading efficiency, and apply a design that considers process efficiency and safety.

Previously, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction drew market attention in February by winning its first order for a large container ship of the 10,000-TEU class or higher at the Yeongdo Shipyard. With this additional order expanding the construction of the same vessel type, improvements in production efficiency and profitability are also expected.

These vessels are eco-friendly ships equipped with desulfurization systems (scrubbers) to comply with the environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and also apply Alternative Maritime Power (AMP) systems that utilize the onshore power grid when anchored at port.

Based on this vessel type, HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has also completed the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel propulsion model, establishing a system to respond to the diverse demands of shipowners. The strategy is to further strengthen its market responsiveness in line with the growing demand for transition to eco-friendly fuels in the future.
