• On 28 and 29 April, the Port Authority of Valencia is bringing together the main European stakeholders in the eFTI4LIVE project
• The initiative, led by Spain, brings together 19 European Union countries and aims to digitise freight transport within the European Union, thereby eliminating the use of paper

 The Port Authority of Valencia host the meeting of the European eFTI4LIVE project consortium on 28 and 29 April. This is a key meeting to coordinate technological and regulatory developments regarding the digitalisation of freight transport in the European Union .

The eFTI4LIVE initiative will pave the way towards a paperless transport model, in which freight documentation can be managed and verified digitally. This change will lead to a reduction in administrative costs and improved efficiency across the entire logistics chain.

The event will bring together 70 institutional, technical and business representatives from various European countries in person, with further experts joining online. Valencia is thus establishing itself as a leading centre for logistics innovation, thanks to this meeting organised by the Spanish Government’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

The eFTI4LIVE consortium comprises 41 beneficiary organisations and 14 partner organisations, bringing the total number of partners to 55 from 19 European countries, including public authorities, technology providers and logistics companies. Coordinated by Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility and supported by the Valenciaport Foundation, this meeting will enable the project’s next steps to be aligned and progress to be made on the technical and regulatory implementation of the eFTI Regulation across European corridors.

The eFTI4LIVE project, 50% funded by the European Commission’s CEF programme and led by Spain, aims to facilitate the practical application of Regulation (EU) 2020/1056 on Electronic Freight Transport Information (eFTI), which is due to be fully implemented by 2027.

The aim of this initiative is to promote the digitisation of data exchange in the freight transport sector to improve its efficiency, transparency and sustainability.

Digitalisation for more efficient and sustainable logistics

Furthermore, the project will help to enhance transparency in operations by establishing a secure system for the exchange of information that facilitates checks by the competent authorities.

Similarly, eFTI4LIVE promotes multimodal interoperability by developing and testing platforms that ensure the seamless exchange of data between different modes of transport, such as maritime, rail and road transport – an aspect of relevance to Valenciaport.

Similarly, the initiative promotes regulatory compliance by facilitating the adoption of the European eFTI regulation and preparing the port to operate within a digital and standardised logistics environment across the EU.

Valenciaport, digital innovation lab

Specifically, the Port Authority of Valencia is working to adapt its ValenciaportPCS platform to the requirements of the eFTI regulation, which will enable the standardised electronic exchange of transport information between the various players in the logistics chain. It is important to note that this initiative forms part of Valenciaport’s Strategic Plan for 2035, which aims to establish the APV as a leading international hubfor portinnovation, based on digitalisation, sustainability and the continuous improvement of its services.
