The Cyprus Marine Club successfully hosted its latest members’ event on 21 April 2026, welcoming approximately 130 members and guests from across the maritime community for an evening of insight, engagement, and networking. The venue, Gazebo Mare, was filled to capacity making it one of the best-attended events in the Club’s history and a clear reflection of the strong interest within the maritime community.

The event opened with a welcoming address by Captain Eberhard Koch, President of the Cyprus Marine Club, who warmly greeted attendees and highlighted the strong sense of community that continues to define the Club. In his remarks, Captain Koch reflected on recent global developments affecting the maritime sector, noting ongoing regional sensitivities and their potential long-term implications for global trade and shipping.

He also emphasized the human dimension of the industry, acknowledging the challenges faced by seafarers in recent weeks and reaffirming the Club’s recognition of their essential role.

Providing an update to members, Captain Koch noted the continued growth of the Club, which now comprises 177 members representing approximately 440 professionals, underscoring the increasing relevance and reach of the Cyprus Marine Club within the maritime sector. He also expressed sincere appreciation to both members and sponsors, whose ongoing support remains instrumental to the Club’s success.

During the address, the Club welcomed its newest corporate member, SPACEL Cyprus Limited, further strengthening its dynamic and expanding network.

Captain Koch concluded by introducing the evening’s keynote speaker, Mr. Theodore Chouliaras, CEO of Upoil Tankers, a distinguished petroleum economist with extensive experience in shipping finance, investment banking, and capital markets.

Mr. Chouliaras delivered a compelling presentation titled “The Geopolitical Impact on the Future of the Maritime Industry.” His address examined how evolving geopolitical tensions, shifting trade routes, energy security concerns, and regional instability are reshaping global shipping dynamics. The presentation was not only extremely valuable and rich in insight, but also highly engaging, with Mr. Chouliaras captivating the audience through his sharp sense of humor. Such was the level of engagement that attendees listened in complete silence throughout- an indication of both the relevance of the topic and the quality of the insights shared.

He further highlighted the growing importance of strategic adaptability, as well as the need for industry stakeholders to anticipate risks, respond to market volatility, and navigate an increasingly complex global environment.

Following the presentation, attendees enjoyed an evening of dinner and networking, providing an excellent opportunity to connect, exchange perspectives, and strengthen professional relationships within the maritime community.
