HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineeringhas secured a series of orders, signing contracts worth a total of about 2 trillion won.

HD KSOE announced on April 9 that it signed contracts for 14 vessels over two days, on April 2 and 7. The total contract value amounts to 1.9710 trillion won.

First, on April 2, the company won orders from a Greek shipowner and an Oceania-based shipping company for two 90,000-cubic-meter (㎥)-class liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers and two 40,000㎥-class LPG carriers, respectively. The order values are 349.8 billion won and 239.3 billion won, respectively.

The vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Samho and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and will be delivered sequentially to the shipowners from 2028 through the first half of 2029. The company explained that the ships will be equipped with environmentally friendly dual-fuel engines, enabling them to respond to strengthened environmental regulations.

Also on April 2, HD KSOE orea  won an order from an Asia-based shipping company for eight 50,000t-class petrochemical product carriers (PC carriers) worth a total of 611.7 billion won. These vessels will be built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Naval & Special Ship and  Medium-Sized Ship Business Division and delivered to the shipowner by the first half of 2029.

On April 7, the company won an order from Sonangol Shipping for two 174,000㎥-class liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. The vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Samho by the second half of 2029.

In total, the vessels won by HD KSOE  over the two days comprise four LPG carriers, eight PC carriers, and two LNG carriers—totally 14 ships.

Notably, the portfolio diversification stands out, extending beyond LNG carriers in which K-shipbuilding has been showing strength.

An official at the company said, “Amid the impact of geopolitical risks and rising oil prices, inquiries for orders across various ship types such as tankers, gas carriers, and container ships are continuing,” adding, “We will maximize profitability by selectively winning orders focused on high value-added vessels.”

Meanwhile, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering secured orders for a total of 54 vessels in the first quarter: 10 LNG carriers, 20 container ships, five LPG and ammonia carriers, seven crude oil carriers, and 12 PC carriers. The company won a total of $5.94 billion, achieving 25.5 % of its annual target  $23.31 billion.
