Engaging in Dialogues with Energy Industry Leaders from Around the World

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, sponsored and participated in CERAWeek 2026 held by S&P Global in Houston, Texas, from March 23-27, and was the only Japanese shipping company taking part in the event as a partner.

CERAWeek is widely regarded as one of the energy industry’s largest and most influential international conferences. Held annually, it brings together more than 10,000 representatives from energy-related companies and organizations around the world to exchange insights and perspectives. Held under the theme “Convergence and Competition: Energy, Technology and Geopolitics,” this year’s event featured senior executives from leading companies alongside government officials, who came together for dynamic and forward-looking discussions. The sessions offered timely insights into current trends and developments across a broad range of topics, including the global energy landscape, geopolitics, and advances in AI and digital technologies. Taking advantage of this opportunity, MOL engaged in extensive exchanges of views with a wide range of industry stakeholders on topics such as the outlook of the shipping industry, energy strategies, and decarbonization initiatives. In addition, in fields where we have particular strengths, Managing Executive Officer Suryan Wirya-Simunovic and others participated as panelists in executive conferences.

During the session, discussions focused on the role of LNG amid Asia’s economic growth and the corresponding increase in electricity demand. Managing Executive Officer Suryan Wirya-Simunovic, who took part as a speaker, stated that “natural gas and LNG are energy sources that are difficult to substitute and will continue to play a critical role in supporting Asia’s energy supply,” and introduced MOL’s initiatives not only in LNG transportation but also in LNG infrastructure businesses.

In this session, which focused on solutions for decarbonization in the shipping sector, Ana Carolina Siniscalchi as Regional Head of Business in charge of South America, participated as a speaker and outlined our initiatives. She noted that, in the short term, MOL is working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption by expanding the introduction of LNG-fueled vessels, utilizing the Wind Challenger, wind-assisted ship propulsion system, and promoting more efficient vessel operations.
She also explained that, in order for the shipping industry to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, it will be essential to adopt optimal fuels and technologies-such as ammonia and methanol-tailored to specific vessel types and trade routes.

Through conferences that bring together leading industry stakeholders from around the world, MOL will continue to deepen and leverage its expertise and networks in areas where it has particular strengths, including energy-related businesses and the decarbonization of the shipping industry.
