Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8th, the British International Freight Association (bifa.org) is reaffirming its commitment to advancing gender equality and increasing the representation of women across the freight forwarding and logistics sector.

Dawn White, who recently joined BIFA as head of digital communications & events, said: “The logistics and freight forwarding industry has historically been male-dominated, but momentum is building.

“As the leading trade association for UK freight forwarders and logistics service providers, BIFA recognises the vital role women increasingly play in driving innovation, resilience and growth throughout international supply chains.

“From customs compliance and multimodal operations to digital transformation and senior leadership, women are making a measurable impact across every area of the industry.”

Steve Parker, BIFA director general added: “International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women in freight and logistics, while recognising that more work remains to ensure our industry is fully inclusive and representative.

“BIFA is committed to supporting initiatives that encourage more women to consider long-term, rewarding careers in our sector.”

BIFA is calling on member companies to use International Women’s Day as a catalyst for measurable change through mentorship programmes, flexible working policies, or leadership development initiatives aimed at closing gender gaps.

With global trade evolving rapidly through technological advancement, sustainability requirements, and regulatory change, BIFA emphasises that diverse talent is essential to meeting future challenges.

“An inclusive workforce is not just the right thing to strive for. It strengthens business performance and industry resilience,” Parker added. “By working together, we can ensure freight forwarding offers equal opportunity for all.”
