The Cyprus Shipping Chamber warmly welcomes the European Industrial Maritime Strategy and the EU Ports Strategy, recently published by the European Commission. The European Industrial Maritime Strategy recognises the strategic role of shipping in Europe’s energy and supply chain security and places strong emphasis on investments in clean fuels, decarbonisation technologies, and digitalisation.

At the same time, the EU Ports Strategy aims to future-proof the EU ports sector, enhance its competitiveness and expand the role of ports for society in a secure, safe and sustainable way, supporting the industry through more efficient and digital port operations and integrated logistics chains.

European shipping represents around 35% of the global fleet, underscoring its central role in global trade. These strategies reaffirm the need for internationally aligned regulation, while promoting a green transition across the maritime value chain, including ports, shipping and shipbuilding.

Commenting on the strategies, CSC Director General Mr. Josephides said:

“We welcome the focus on clean fuels, decarbonisation technologies and innovation. These investments are critical to ensuring that European Shipping remains competitive, sustainable and resilient while contributing to the global energy transition.”

With Cyprus being among the largest EU merchant fleets and the EU’s largest shipmanagement centre, the Chamber fully supports initiatives that reinforce Europe’s maritime leadership, safeguard competitiveness and prioritise green investments and innovation across the industry.
