The decision, informed by recent consultations with security partners, comes as a response to “unforeseen constraints” within the wider operating environment of the Red Sea region.

The Danish shipping giant confirmed that while it remains committed to the Suez Canal as the most efficient and sustainable corridor, current security assessments have made it challenging to avoid delays. Consequently, specific upcoming sailings will be diverted via the Cape of Good Hope.

Key details of the adjustment include:

• Impacted Services: The ME11 (connecting the Middle East/India to the Mediterranean) and the MECL (connecting the Middle East/India to the US East Coast).

• Nature of Change: This is described as a temporary adjustment rather than a permanent structural shift.

• Primary Objective: To ensure supply chain predictability for customers by avoiding the uncertainty currently surrounding Red Sea passage.

Maersk has provided a rolling three-week schedule for affected vessels to allow cargo owners to adjust their logistics planning. Among the notable diversions are the Maersk Houston (voyage 608W) and Astrid Maersk (voyage 609W) on the ME11 westbound route, and the Maersk Huacho (voyage 610E) on the MECL eastbound route.

“On all additional MECL and ME11 sailings, we continue to prioritise the Trans-Suez route for these services as it is the fastest, most sustainable and most efficient way for us to serve our customers,” the carrier stated in an advisory.
