George Koufos

Manager Business Development – ABS Hellenic Ltd

George Koufos is a maritime professional with a strong technical and commercial background, currently serving as Manager in the Business Development Department of the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS). He has been with ABS for nearly seven years, having previously worked as a Surveyor and subsequently as an ISM/ISPS Lead Auditor and MLC Inspector. He has also worked in the Technical Department of the Marshall Islands Flag State Administration, as well as in various other technical and engineering roles in the marine sector.

He holds an MBA in Shipping from the University of the Aegean and an MEng and BEng in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, complemented by a BEng in Mechanical Engineering from A.T.E.I. of Chalkida. He is currently pursuing an LLM in Maritime Law & Management at the University of Essex and has completed multiple professional trainings in auditing, safety, flag state inspections, and technical familiarization, reflecting a profile that combines technical expertise, regulatory insight, and business development skills in shipping.
