 The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has formalized the contract for the expansion of the Border Control building  at the Port of Valencia, a strategic project focused on modernizing the facilities and providing them with greater operational capacity. The renovation will add 670 square meters to the building and four new loading docks.

The expansion of the Border Control Post will enable innovative solutions to be incorporated and inspection and logistics processes at the port enclave to be optimized. It will involve an investment of more than €1.7 million and is expected to take 12 months to complete. The project, which is scheduled to begin next March, has been awarded to ELECTROTECNIA MONRABAL SLU.

Improvements to strengthen border control

The project aims to modernize and expand the Border Control Post facilities, which currently include inspection rooms, warehouses, and laboratories on the ground floor, as well as offices on the first floor.

Among the main interventions, the expansion of the ground floor at the southeast end stands out, with the addition of two new docks on the south facade and another two on the north facade. The building will now have a total area of approximately 4,170 square meters, which will be divided between administrative tasks, occupying an area of more than 1,800 square meters, and inspection, occupying more than 2,360 square meters.

The inspection area in the east will be designed with double height, facilitating the inspection of large-volume goods, especially large plant species.

In order to facilitate the unloading and inspection of these goods, two of the new docks will have double-action sectional doors and higher shelters, while one of them will incorporate a retractable snail-type shelter capable of covering a trailer with an “open-top” container.

Between the new north and south inspection areas, a warehouse will be set up with alternative access from both zones, complemented by a transit area for forklifts. The expanded inspection rooms will have compartmentalization curtains and quick-opening doors, allowing for subdivisions as needed.

The offices on the first floor at the northeast end will be expanded parallel to the ground floor, creating six new offices and increasing the size of the administrative area. Renovation work will be carried out on the original building, such as the creation of two new separate entrances to the goods inspection area and the expansion of an existing laboratory.
