Red Sea Diversion Tracker – assessment for 10 Feb 2026
The number of containerships sailing via the Suez Canal fell marginally from 61 in the 2-week period ended 25 January to 60 in the 2-week period ended 8 February, as ocean carriers continued to test the route or watch from other carriers are doing in the current uncertain safety conditions.

CMA CGM, MSC and Maersk were again the carriers sending the largest vessels during the latest period, as CMA CGM continued to send more 8,000teu+ containerships than other carriers through Suez. This included the 24,000teu “CMA CGM Seine,” which operates on the Asia-North Europe FAL3 service.

In the 2-week period ended 8 February, CMA CGM, MSC and Maersk sent 9 ships of more than 8,000teu via the Suez Canal, as compared with 10 in the previous 2-week period. Of these, Maersk sent just one large ship in the latest period, but the Danish carrier has said that it will send more ships via this route in the future.

Smaller niche carriers continue to send the majority of ships (smaller than 8,000teu) via the Canal, generally connecting Saudi Arabia and the Mediterranean but not sailing past the dangerous area off Yemen.

Meanwhile, the number of vessels sailing around the Cape of Good Hope decreased 4%, to 303, in the latest 2-week period, when compared to the previous fortnight. The Cape still remains by far the main route to connect Asia and Europe, according to the Red Sea Diversion Tracker.
