This project is a core initiative to secure power supply stability by expanding the 132kV-class submarine power grid between Malaysia’s mainland and Langkawi Island, a major tourist destination.

LS Cable & System competed with multiple global companies in this bidding process. In particular, following the successful completion of the previous Langkawi Phase 1 Project, the company has now consecutively won this Phase 2 project, demonstrating its engineering technological capabilities.

The company explained that the key factors for this Phase 2 bidding success were analyzed to be the trust built through successful completion of the existing project and excellent evaluation in overall competitiveness.

Currently, Southeast Asia is actively pursuing large-scale submarine power grid projects with the goal of establishing the ASEAN Power Grid (APG) that connects power grids between countries.

The global submarine cable market is expected to grow to approximately 34 trillion won by 2030, with the island-rich Asia-Pacific region leading the overall growth at approximately 20 trillion won.

LS Cable & System plans to use this project as a springboard to strengthen overseas bidding references and accelerate its domestic market strategy. It plans to demonstrate unparalleled turnkey bidding capabilities by collaborating with LS Marine Solution and others in large-scale national projects such as the West Coast Energy Highway, for which bidding announcements are expected in the first half of this year.
