Samsung Heavy Industries partners with DSEC to promote U.S. shipbuilding modernisation

Collaboration Leverages DSEC’s Expertise in Design and Procurement
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Nov. 6 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for establishing a strategic partnership with DSEC, a ship design and equipment procurement company.
DSEC, a domestic mid-sized company, collaborates with U.S. shipyards in various fields including design, equipment supply, maintenance, and shipyard consulting for commercial vessels and special-purpose ships.
Through this agreement, Samsung Heavy Industries plans to continue cooperation in various fields in domestic and international markets including the United States: △medium-sized commercial vessel construction △shipyard modernization consulting △ship conversion and liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier cargo tank repair △green and digital solution provision △R&D facility utilization.
Samsung Heavy Industries plans to establish a supply chain system optimized for the “MASGA Project” by linking its shipbuilding and offshore construction technologies with DSEC’s design and procurement capabilities performed in the United States. In particular, the company plans to proceed with U.S. shipyard modernization work together with DSEC and secure differentiated competitiveness in cooperation with the United States.
Previously, Samsung Heavy Industries declared its entry into the U.S. market by establishing a strategic partnership with the U.S. Vigor Marine Group regarding maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of U.S. Navy support vessels. Vigor Marine Group is a specialized shipbuilder for U.S. naval vessel maintenance and modernization, and MRO of special mission vessels.
Based on this cooperation system, Samsung Heavy Industries plans to further accelerate its entry into global markets including North America and Southeast Asia.
A Samsung Heavy Industries official stated, “DSEC is the best partner with extensive experience in ship design and procurement within the United States,” adding, “The agreement with DSEC, following the strategic partnership establishment with U.S. Vigor Marine Group, will become an opportunity to create new growth drivers.”
