Samsung Heavy Industries  announced on Oct. 29, that it has unveiled ‘S-EDP’ , the shipbuilding and offshore industry’s first automation platform, at the ‘Auto2Vision’ event held at Samsung Geoje Hotel in Gyeongsangnam-do.

S-EDP is a platform where digitalized information is automatically stored and shared. Samsung Heavy Industries expects that it will significantly reduce design time by providing web-based simultaneous access, real-time collaboration both internally and externally, and automatic creation of drawings, documents, and calculation sheets.

The company explained that by utilizing this, they will shift the work paradigm from document and drawing-centered to data-based, and secure consistency between work automation and data (1D), drawings/documents (2D), and 3D models.

Samsung Heavy Industries plans to more than double the design automation rate based on S-EDP by 2030, and through this, accelerate the transition to smart offices and factories by connecting data from all sectors including design, procurement, and production.

The company also plans to apply S-EDP to all domestic and overseas business sites simultaneously, as well as implement a commercialization strategy to sell it to overseas shipyards with which they have partnerships.

The Auto2Vision event was attended by about 80 key domestic and international figures, including representatives from global oil companies Petronas and ENI, Vigor Marine of the United States, Congressman Seo Il-jun, and Min Ki-sik, Deputy Mayor of Geoje City.

Choi Sung-an, CEO (Vice Chairman) of Samsung Heavy Industries, said, “The smart shipyard that Samsung Heavy Industries aims for is a form where 3X, referred to as Digital Transformation (DX), AI Transformation (AX), and Robotics Transformation (RX), are organically combined through S-EDP,” adding, “S-EDP will play a crucial role in the transition to a smart shipyard.”
