AAL Shipping has won the Cargo Operator of the Year Award at the Asia Pacific Supply Chain Excellence Awards in Singapore, for the development of its new Super B-Class fleet and the successful delivery of complex global projects for DB Schenker, MCSI Rotterdam, and Konecranes, among others.

The award highlights how AAL’s six 32,000 deadweight tonne Super B-Class vessels, designed with methanol-ready engines, a 700-tonne heavy lift capacity, over 40,000 cubic metres of stowage, and the innovative ECO-DECK system, set new standards for transporting oversized and complex cargo with reduced environmental impact.

Accepting the award, Teck Liong Liew, Chief Financial Officer, AAL Shipping, said: “This award recognises the ingenuity of our Super B-Class design and the trust placed in us by our partners.

“It is also a tribute to the dedication of our global teams, at sea and onshore, who continually deliver complex projects safely, reliably, and sustainably.”

Judges recognised the record-breaking maiden voyage of Super B-Class ‘AAL Limassol’ which showcased the fleets’ capabilities and parcelling prowess on its maiden long-haul voyage, safely transporting over 89,000 freight tonnes for its customers across multiple sectors.  The mixed cargo included the transport of 55 metre long columns for DB Schenker, two 135-metre-long barges weighing 1,650 and 1,425 tonnes respectively, along with 15 wind turbine blades, each weighing 30.6 tonnes each.

The transport of four 135-metre-long barges with MCSI Rotterdam also received praise from judges. Weighing 6,200 tonnes in total, ‘AAL Hamburg’s’ ECO-DECK enabled the previously impossible transport of all four barges from Nantong, China, to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, on a single long-haul voyage.

In addition, judges highlighted the transport of three fully assembled Konecranes Gottwald ESP 10 mobile harbour cranes from ports in Europe to Mexico and Chile, using an innovative open hatch configuration by ‘AAL Hamburg’ – a first for a multipurpose vessel of this type.

Now in its 30th year, the Supply Chain Excellence Awards recognise best practice across the logistics industry.

This year marked the first Asia Pacific edition of the awards, which took place in Singapore at the Four Points by Sheraton on Tuesday 30th September.
