Valenciaport has launched a project through which the València Port Authority (APV) will support the Ministry of the Interior in strengthening border control measures. The initiative is 75% co-financed by the European Union through the Next Generation funds and aims to enhance border security at both the Port of València and the Port of Sagunto.

The administrative process for the implementation of the project is currently under way, with the objective of making the system operational before the end of the year. This new system will improve the management of external borders, facilitate the handling of migratory flows, and contribute to the prevention, detection and investigation of terrorism and other serious crimes.

To this end, the project envisages the implementation of the Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). It also foresees the acquisition of verification, monitoring, and registration tablets.

As part of the project, a pilot container will be installed at the Port of València. This facility will feature large windows, thermal insulation, lighting, furnishings, and cutting-edge passport-reading technology to assist with traveller processing. The installation will be fully equipped to operate efficiently in identity verification and border control procedures.

The EES system allows for the registration of entry and exit data, as well as the refusal of access to third-country nationals crossing the external borders of EU Member States.

Meanwhile, ETIAS is designed to assess whether travellers pose a risk to public security or health, and to manage travel authorisations accordingly.
