Targets Growing Demand for Power, Communication Networks in Asia

LS Marine Solution is making a full-scale entry into the Asian-Pacific submarine infrastructure market by establishing a business base in Vietnam.

The company announced on July 21 that it has opened a sales office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. A company official explained, “This is a strategic move that coincides with LS Eco Energy’s pursuit of establishing a local submarine cable factory.” The two companies plan to collaborate on submarine power and communication network construction projects across the Asia-Pacific region in the future.

Recently, the Asian region has been experiencing a rapid increase in demand for submarine infrastructure due to long-distance power grid connections between island nations, the expansion of offshore wind power, the increase in artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, and increased investment in submarine communication networks by global big tech companies. In particular, as Singapore has declared an expansion of renewable energy imports, long-distance high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine transmission network projects connecting to Singapore are being actively pursued in countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Based on its advantage of having 30 years of construction experience in both power and communication networks, LS Marine Solution recently won a submarine cable project for offshore wind power in Taiwan, becoming the first Korean company to enter the overseas power grid market. Through this, the company has also secured the possibility of subsequent orders worth 2.5 trillion won. Additionally, the company is accelerating its efforts to target the communication infrastructure market by winning submarine communication network projects between Korea and Japan pursued by companies such as Microsoft (MS) and Amazon.

A company official stated, “Submarine cable construction is a high-difficulty operation carried out under challenging conditions such as water depth, currents, topography, and weather, requiring extensive experience and technical skills. With the establishment of this office, we will further expand our order base in the Asian market.”
