Hanwha Ocean announced on June 26 that a delegation from the Royal Thai Navy Headquarters, invited by the Republic of Korea Navy, visited Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje shipyard on June 25.

Thailand is currently pursuing an additional frigate acquisition project to enhance its naval surface fleet capabilities. The seven-member delegation, including Major General Chatsavat Saiwong, director of the Policy and Planning Department of the Royal Thai Navy, inspected Hanwha Ocean’s warship construction technology at the Geoje shipyard and received explanations on localization strategies and technology transfer.

Hanwha Ocean successfully delivered Thailand’s most advanced frigate, the “Bhumibol Adulyadej,” to the Royal Thai Navy in 2018. Bhumibol Adulyadej is the name of the former king who is revered as a national father among Thai people. Major General Chatsavat said, “During the Thai Navy’s fleet mobility training conducted in December last year, I felt pride in seeing the Bhumibol Adulyadej, recognized as the most powerful warship among neighboring countries, sailing vigorously.”

Hanwha Ocean plans to provide the best platform reflecting the Royal Thai Navy’s operational requirements for the Thai follow-up ship project. On this day, they presented a roadmap to expand cooperation comprehensively as a long-term partner for the development of Thai naval power and shipbuilding industry, including technology transfer, collaboration with local shipyards, and personnel training. A Hanwha Ocean official stated, “We will propose a ship that can make a substantial contribution to Thailand’s maritime security and the strengthening of naval power as a multipurpose operation platform,” adding, “It is a model equipped with all elements essential for future warfare, including cutting-edge sensors, armaments, and stealth capabilities.”
