HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering announced on June 10 that it has recently won an order for eight 15,900 TEU  container ships from an Asia-based shipping company.

The contract is valued at 2.4 trillion won. The vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’ Ulsan Shipyard and are scheduled to be delivered to the client company sequentially by the second half of 2028.

The ships ordered this time are ultra-large vessels, measuring 366m in length, 51m in width, and 30.3m in height. These ships will be equipped with liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel propulsion engines. Of the total 44 container ships won by HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering this year, about 60%, or 26 ships, are equipped with LNG dual-fuel propulsion engines.

A company official stated, “Amid strengthening maritime environmental regulations, orders for ships with eco-friendly fuel propulsion specifications continue to come in.” The spokesperson added, “Based on our differentiated eco-friendly ship technology, we will lead the decarbonization of the seas.”
