Doosan Enerbility announced on June 4 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding  with Korea South-East Power  to promote next-generation eco-friendly hydrogen-fueled turbines based on domestic technology.

This agreement aims to create a clean hydrogen power generation ecosystem to expand carbon-free power sources in response to the government’s carbon neutrality goals and hydrogen economy activation policies.

Under this agreement, Korea South-East Power will cooperate in the implementation and operation of hydrogen-fueled power generation projects using clean energy. Doosan Enerbility will focus its capabilities on developing competitive hydrogen-fueled turbines applying the latest technology and supplying equipment.

Korea South-East Power has been participating in the national project for medium-sized hydrogen-fueled turbines led by Doosan Enerbility from the planning stage and is leading the demonstration and commercialization of domestically developed hydrogen turbines. Additionally, it is considering supplying carbon-free electricity using hydrogen turbines at existing coal power plant sites to achieve carbon neutrality and revitalize the local economy in South Gyeongsang Province.

Jeong Yeon-in, vice chairman of Doosan Enerbility, said, “The domestic hydrogen-fueled turbine industry is gaining momentum based on the realistic demand of domestic power companies.” He added, “Amid the accelerating trend of global gas turbine manufacturers developing hydrogen turbines, Korea South-East Power’s early participation in the hydrogen power generation business will be a driving force for Korean hydrogen turbines to advance into the global market.”

Meanwhile, Doosan Enerbility plans to develop 90MW medium-sized and 400MW large-sized hydrogen-fueled turbines by 2028. Building on this cooperation, the two companies plan to continue collaborating to establish a domestic clean hydrogen power generation ecosystem and advance Korean hydrogen turbines into the global market.
