When on-site machining, alignment services, blade repairs, or other field repairs are required, MarineShaft’s mobile service team is prepared to deliver high-precision work at any project location. The following two case studies demonstrate MarineShaft’s ability to mobilize quickly and perform expert repairs under demanding conditions.
Case Study 1: On-Site Rudder Machining and Laser Alignment in Iceland
MarineShaft recently completed a successful on-site service assignment in Iceland. Within three days, two service engineers carried out precision alignment and machining on a vessel’s rudder equipment.
Challenge:
The vessel’s rudder line was misaligned.
Solution:
MarineShaft machined the rudder heel housing on-site to restore proper alignment. Following precision realignment and machining, a new bushing was mounted in a clean, correctly machined seat—ensuring long-term reliability and optimal performance.
Scope of Work:
- Measuring the rudder line from the steering gear to the rudder heel
- Machining the rudder heel housing to correct misalignment
- Re-measuring the rudder line post-machining
- Machining the rudder flap bushing seat for precise fitting of the new bushing
Case Study 2: On-Site Propeller Blade Welding in Norway
With extensive welding experience and class-approved procedures recognized by leading Classification Societies, MarineShaft recently conducted emergency repairs on a Norwegian vessel’s four-pitch propeller blades following a wire strike incident.
Challenge:
The propeller blades sustained severe damage, requiring structural restoration through welding.
Solution:
The vessel docked at a local shipyard and preferred an on-site repair to minimize downtime. MarineShaft dispatched field engineers equipped with class-approved welding materials and all necessary equipment.
Because these materials are kept in stock, MarineShaft was able to mobilize swiftly and begin repairs without delay, minimizing operational disruptions.
Scope of Work:
- Initial inspection and measurement of blade geometries
- Grinding of damaged edges in preparation for material rebuild
- Welding to restore damaged edges on all four blades
- Grinding of welded areas to match the original blade geometry
- Liquid penetrant inspection to verify repair integrity
The repair was completed within five working days.
MarineShaft is a repair company located in Denmark. They specialize in repair and replacement of propulsion and rudder equipment, providing swift in-house and on-site repair solutions.
