Dublin Port will be the focus of a special three-part series on RTÉ Nationwide, beginning Monday, 28 April 2025, at 7pm on RTÉ One. The series will explore the Port’s daily operations, rich history, cultural contribution, and important role in the local community. 

As Ireland’s busiest port, handling €165billion worth of freight and 1.6million passengers annually, Dublin Port is a vital part of the national supply chain. The series offers viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the hardworking heart of Dublin and the colourful cast of characters who make it work. 

Hosted by RTÉ presenters Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh and Anne Cassin, the series will feature everything from marine pilotage and freight logistics to environmental initiatives within the Dublin Bay Biosphere, heritage preservation, and future plans for the Port. 

To coincide with the Nationwide series, the Port will offer public tours throughout May and June, beginning with the Cycling the Country exhibition – presented in partnership with the National Museum of Ireland – which opens at the Dublin Port Substation from 30 April.  

Nationwide Producer/Director Ann Marie O’Callaghan noted: “It’s not very often that we do a three-episode series on a single topic but Dublin Port has so many stories to tell and share with the people of Ireland. It was obvious on my first visit with Port Heritage Director Lar Joye that more than one programme was needed to provide viewers with an eye-opening insight into the complexities, history, and diversity of the port.  

“I hope this series gives some sense of how the port is relevant to all of us, and how it’s intrinsically linked to Ireland, it’s economy, its history and its future.”

“The shows will shed a light on what we do here, and we hope people will be encouraged to come and have a look for themselves – whether on a bus tour, or on a day out along the Great South Wall or on the newly-opened Greenway.”

·         Wednesday 30 April – History and Heritage of Dublin Port: Exploring the Port’s 300-year legacy. 

·         Friday 2 May – Dublin Port and Local Communities: Dublin Port’s evolving role in the community and its vision for the future.
