Digitisation and AI at the heart of the company’s strategic planning
Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol has completed the reorganisation and upgrading of the Container Yard at its container terminal at Limassol Port, increasing the total capacity of the terminal to approximately 12,000 TEUs, thus further improving the terminal’s overall capacity and ability to serve Cypriot trade.
The project is part of the investment plan implemented by Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol, the operator of the container terminal at Limassol port, which, to date, has invested over €36m in new equipment, improving security and quality of service, implementing its digital transformation and upgrading its operational performance.
From 2017, when Eurogate CTL took over the management of the terminal, until 2024, fees from the Concession Agreement amounted to a total of €313,907,351 in revenue for the Republic of Cyprus, while there has been an increase in the volume of container traffic.
Following the first phase of investments in infrastructure and equipment, Eurogate CTL’s plans for the next two years focus on further upgrading services, placing special emphasis on digitisation and security. In particular, Eurogate plans to launch the Twin Sim technology, which uses AI algorithms to enable the interactive visualisation and optimal operation of the yard and the installation of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) cameras on gantry cranes and other locations.
In a statement, during a press tour of the terminal site, Chief Operating Officer of Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol, Mr Alexandros Demetriades said: “The container terminal at the Port of Limassol has the potential to become an important commercial hub with direct links to Greece, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Malta, UK and Northern Europe, while Cyprus’ strategic location, security and political stability, as well as the high productivity indicators of the terminal are significant advantages in terms of traffic growth. For Eurogate CTL, the modernisation of the container terminal is a strategic objective, thus a comprehensive investment strategy has been developed in this direction. For the period 2025-2026, our plans include further upgrading the terminal with new technologies and the use of AI. Sustainable development of the port industry, implementation of ESG criteria and support of the local community are also a strategic priority. Finally, we also take part in EU-funded projects. Currently, Eurogate CTL is a partner in the AeRos Project, the CY-Trust Project and DecarbonLim”.
