FSRU Terminal Program enters its crucial phase – GAZ-SYSTEM has selected the Contractor for the jetty and the offshore pipeline

GAZ-SYSTEM signed a contract with the Consortium consisting of GAP INŞAAT YATIRIM VE DIŞ TİCARET A.Ş. (Consortium Leader), UNITEK İNŞAAT SANAYI VE TICARET A.Ş. and FABE POLSKA Sp. z o.o. – the general contractor for the offshore component of the FSRU Program in the Gulf of Gdańsk.
The Consortium shall be tasked with the preparation of the detailed design, the delivery of machinery and equipment, and the construction of the offshore component of the FSRU Program. The works include construction of the jetty, with the infrastructure necessary for the FSRU operation, as well as of the offshore pipeline to connect the Terminal with the Polish national transmission system.
– The FSRU Program has entered its implementation phase in all the three areas: offshore, onshore and acquisition of the vessel, concluded Sławomir Hinc, President of the Management Board of GAZ-SYSTEM, and added that the FSRU Terminal, with a capacity of 6.1 bcma, will satisfy approx. 30% of the current annual demand for natural gas, thus increasing the security of supply of this energy source for Poland and the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe.
The Contract concluded with the Consortium is based on the EPC formula providing complex delivery of the investment project and covering the entire chain: from engineering, through procurement and construction to obtaining the necessary permits and finally the Terminal commissioning.
The construction of the jetty in the Gulf of Gdańsk will start with dredging works, which are planned for the second half of 2025. The FSRU Terminal is scheduled for commissioning in Q1 2028.
All other elements of the FSRU Program are currently in progress. The three sections of the onshore pipelines: Kolnik – Gdańsk, Gardeja – Kolnik and Gustorzyn – Gardeja are already under construction. Also the FSRU to be moored at the jetty is being built at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries shipyard in Ulsan, South Korea.
Additional information
• The infrastructure to be built in the Gdańsk area will be the second facility in Poland, after the LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, designed to receive liquefied natural gas supplied by sea.
• The FSRU Program is currently the largest investment project of GAZ-SYSTEM. In addition to the construction of the jetty and the offshore gas pipeline, the FSRU Program also includes the acquisition of the vessel and the expansion of the Polish national transmission system by 250 km of onshore gas pipelines.
• The FSRU Terminal will be located approx. 3 km from the mainland, in the southern part of the Gulf of Gdańsk, in the vicinity of the Baltic Hub Container Terminal and the fairway leading to the Port of Gdańsk.
• The Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU), i.e. the vessel built for the process storage of liquefied natural gas off-taken from LNG carriers, its conversion from a liquid to a gaseous state and its further send-out will be permanently moored to the jetty. After methane is transmitted onshore, it will flow towards central Poland through new gas pipelines built as part of the onshore Program component.
• The FSRU Terminal supports the process of the economy transition to less carbon-intensive energy sources.
• The offshore FSRU Program component is being implemented with the support of EU funds. The European Commission, under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), granted funding to the LNG Gdańsk project for the preparatory works – Action: ‘Engineering works up to obtainment of the building permit for the offshore part of the PCI 6.27 LNG Gdańsk (PL)’. The maximum amount of the awarded support is approx. EUR 19.6 million.
• In 2023, the European Commission also considered the onshore gas pipelines to be constructed as part of the FSRU Program eligible for loans under the National Recovery Plan (NRP) in the REPowerEU chapter on the development of infrastructure needed to meet the most urgent security of supply needs (Component G3.2. – Improving energy infrastructure and facilities to meet immediate security of supply needs for gas).
