As part of International Women’s History Month, social media platform, The Hood, is highlighting the voices of women across the maritime industry, through its ‘Women in Shipping’ series.

The series highlights the realities of working in the maritime industry for women both onboard and on land, whose experiences are sometimes overlooked. Despite greater progress being made in the industry in recent times, it is widely reported that women do continue to face challenges, such as gender bias and concerns about their safety.

Featuring a series of interviews with inspiring women in the industry from all levels, including Gὒven
Kale, Chief Clinical Officer at Mental Health Support Solutions (MHSS), Abigail Chin, Second Officer, and Nicki Reasonable, a stewardess and others. Each shares their own perspective on what a career in maritime means to them and how they believe the industry can continue to evolve to attract more women.

“As a female entrepreneur in the maritime industry, I wanted to highlight some of the industry’s often forgotten female voices and share their perspectives on what maritime means to them and how it can improve,” says Josephine Le, founder of The Hood. “Shipping offers a wide range of roles for women, and as technology advances and attitudes change, even more opportunities will open up. We are committed to creating a future where more women, especially those from minority backgrounds, have the chance to thrive in the industry.”

The ‘Women in Shipping Series’ highlights that from cadet to leadership roles, creating a space where women feel safe and supported is essential for the future of the industry.
