HD Hyundai and Palantir Technologies are advancing their collaborative “Future of Shipyard” project, which has been promoted since 2021. The project aims to revolutionize shipbuilding by integrating advanced digital technologies such as data analytics, virtual augmented reality, robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence . On March 6 , Chung Ki-sun, senior vice chairman of HD Hyundai, visited Palantir’s office in Washington, D.C., to discuss the progress of the “AI Shipyard” project with Alex Karp, CEO of Palantir Technologies. The meeting also explored potential cooperation in the defense industry, highlighting the strategic importance of AI-based defense solutions for both South Korea and the United States.

The discussions between Chung and Karp underscored a shared vision for the future of shipbuilding and defense. Industry sources reported on March 7 that both companies have reached a consensus on the critical role AI-based defense solutions can play in the security strategies of their respective countries. Palantir, known for its expertise in big data analytics and its work with U.S. defense agencies, including the Department of Defense, Navy, and Army, is well-positioned to contribute to this initiative.

The AI Shipyard is a key component of the FOS project, which aims to achieve a 30% increase in productivity and a 30% reduction in process time by 2030. This ambitious goal reflects HD Hyundai’s commitment to innovation and technological advancement in the shipbuilding industry. As one of the largest shipbuilding companies globally, HD Hyundai’s efforts to integrate cutting-edge technologies into its operations could set new standards for the industry.

Chung traveled to the United States to attend “CERAWeek,” the world’s largest energy event, held in Houston, Texas, from March 10-14. This event serves as a crucial platform for discussing energy trends and innovations, aligning with HD Hyundai’s interests in both shipbuilding and broader industrial applications.
