AAL Shipping  is proudly celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2025, marking three decades of delivering award-winning global solutions to the multipurpose, project and heavy lift cargo markets. To commemorate this milestone, AAL gathered industry partners and stakeholders for a special customer event alongside Breakbulk Middle East in Dubai, reflecting on its journey and achievements over the past 30 years.

Since its establishment in 1995, AAL has built a reputation for delivering reliable and customer-centric shipping solutions, supporting industries worldwide with its diverse fleet of project heavy lift vessels and commitment to excellence.

Over the past three decades, AAL has expanded its operations to encompass key global trade routes, serving dynamic industries such as energy, infrastructure, construction, mining and leisure. Although this growth stems from substantial and ongoing investments in its fleet and infrastructure, AAL’s Management credits the company’s success primarily to its customers, supply chain partners, and employees: “Reaching this 30-year milestone is testament to the dedication and expertise of our teams spanning four continents, as well as the trust and support of our customers, vendors and associates,” said Kyriacos Panayides, CEO of AAL Shipping.

In our 30 years of operations, we have experienced and dealt with a broad range of external challenges – including market crashes, geopolitical unrest, extreme weather events and even a pandemic. Throughout all kinds of unpredictability, we have managed to deliver on our customer commitments.”

Continuing its tradition of reinvesting in its fleet and operations to better serve its customers, AAL’s 30th anniversary coincides with the ongoing delivery of its third-generation 32,000 dwt Super B-Class vessels. Building on its first-generation newbuild programme in the 2000s and the subsequent introduction of its second generation 19,000 dwt S-Class and 31,000 dwt A-Class multipurpose heavy lift vessels, the Super B-Class marks a new era for AAL. Designed to meet both current and evolving demands of the project and heavy lift shipping sector, this latest fleet expansion represents another milestone in the carrier’s rich maritime heritage.

“With every new generation of vessel, AAL continues its evolution from our origins as a multipurpose carrier of mostly breakbulk and steel cargoes to one that is at the forefront of the premium project heavy lift segment. Our long-standing liner services established in 1995, and still running, also give us the unique capability to parcel all types of MPP cargo and over the years, we have worked closely with our customers to understand their current and future needs to remain their partner of choice,” Panayides added.

During Breakbulk Middle East – the multipurpose, heavy lift sector’s first large international gathering of the year – AAL took the opportunity to celebrate its 30th anniversary, welcoming hundreds of delegates on its stand each day and hosting an evening rooftop reception for invited guests. The two-day exhibition was a huge success with around 7,500 attendees – indicative of the strength of the Middle East region as a project hub, which last year enjoyed unprecedented levels of capital expenditure across all sectors. According to data from MEED Projects, a total of USD264 billion worth of contracts were awarded in 2024, up by 6.5 percent compared to the previous record set in 2023.

On the second day of the event, AAL’s Managing Director, Christophe Grammare, took to the main stage to introduce and then take part in an expert panel on fleet capacity challenges and regulatory pressures in the multipurpose project heavy lift sector, offering insights into the critical issues facing the sector and how carriers plan to address them.

The celebrations during Breakbulk Middle East mark the beginning of a series of global events throughout 2025, where AAL will continue to show its appreciation of its customers, stakeholders and colleagues.  We look forward to celebrating with you throughout the year.
