Company unveils detailed 2030 Strategy with 23.5 Trillion Won Investment Plan

Last September, HMM, one of South Korea’s largest shipping companies, announced its ambitious “2030 Mid- to Long-Term Strategy,” which includes a substantial investment of 23.5 trillion won by 2030. On Jan. 22, HMM further detailed its plans, revealing a comprehensive strategy to enhance corporate value and return over 2.5 trillion won to shareholders within the next year.

HMM’s plan to enhance corporate value focuses on five key areas: achieving an average annual sales growth rate of 9%, maintaining a three-year average return on equity (ROE) of 4%, expanding ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, and increasing communication with shareholders and other stakeholders. The company also outlined its investment plans to expand its capacity to 1.55 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) for containers and 1,256 DWT (deadweight tonnage) for bulk by 2030.

A representative from HMM stated, “We will continue to pursue measures to enhance corporate competitiveness, such as fleet expansion and portfolio diversification.” This commitment is part of HMM’s broader strategy to increase shareholder value through various strategies and system improvements, including shareholder returns and governance enhancements.

HMM’s shareholder return policy includes a 30% dividend payout ratio or a 5% market dividend yield by 2030, with a short-term plan to return over 2.5 trillion won within one year. Additionally, the company aims to increase the achievement rate of the “Core Governance Indicators” from 47% in 2023 to 65% by 2030.

In line with global environmental goals, HMM has committed to achieving the “Net Zero by 2045” goal ahead of schedule. To support this objective, the company plans to invest 14.4 trillion won by 2030 and expand communication with shareholders and stakeholders.
