Russia’s exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) increased by 3% in 2024 to exceed 32 million tonnes with around a half going to Europe, LSEG preliminary data showsed.

Europe took around 16 million tonnes, or 50% of total Russian exports, while more than seven million tonnes were imported by China, Russia’s single largest importer of the super cool gas.
In Europe, Russia’s LNG exports have been delivered mostly this year to France, which imported more than 5.6 million tonnes of LNG. This is followed by Belgium and Spain.

Total Russia’s LNG supplies in December alone have been stable in comparison to November, at around 2.9 million tonnes.

The Novatek-led Yamal LNG plant has increased exports in 2024 by 5.4% year-on-year to 19.6 million tonnes. In December, shipments from the plant rose by 4.2% from November 2024 to 1.73 million tonnes, but fell by 9% from December 2023.

Supplies to Europe from Yamal LNG have nudged up by 1.4% to 14.2 million tonnes in 2024.

US-sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 has dispatched six cargoes since it started exports in August.
