Hancom and Intel announce strategic partnership to innovate on-device aI market

At the Intel Arc B-Series domestic launch event held on Dec. 16, Hancom presented a session themed “Productivity Innovation with On-Device AI” and revealed its collaboration plans with Intel. The following day, Hancom announced that it is partnering with Intel to target the burgeoning on-device AI market. This strategic alliance aims to leverage the strengths of both companies to respond to the expanding market and provide innovative user experiences in the AI PC environment.
Hancom, which is transitioning into an artificial intelligence (AI) company, is currently testing the expansion of its main AI products, “Hancom Assistant” and “Hancompedia,” from on-premises and cloud environments to on-device areas. On-device AI processes AI computations directly on the user’s device, allowing real-time information processing without transmitting data to external servers. This approach enhances privacy, reduces latency, and enables rapid and secure implementation of AI-based solutions.
To maximize synergy, Hancom and Intel are discussing ways to integrate Intel’s Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technology with Hancompedia. RAG is an AI technique that combines retrieval-based methods with generative models to improve the accuracy and relevance of AI-generated content. This technical collaboration is expected to significantly enhance Hancom’s AI products.
Additionally, the two companies plan to develop online and offline education programs in collaboration with Hancom’s subsidiary, the edutech company Hancom Academy. This initiative aims to leverage AI to enhance learning experiences, personalize education, and improve administrative efficiency.
Hancom plans to use this collaboration as a foundation not only to enhance Hancom Assistant, but also to advance and expand the “Hancom Small Language Model (SLM)” scheduled for future release. The company intends to develop new technologies and expand the market through close collaboration with Intel.
Kim Yeon-soo, CEO of Hancom, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “As the AI PC market is expected to grow rapidly, the collaboration with Intel will significantly enhance the user experience of Hancom’s AI products.” He added, “We will support more users in easily utilizing AI technology through on-device AI and lead the popularization of AI by expanding AI accessibility.” Kim further highlighted the strategic importance of the alliance, saying, “By linking the strengths and strategies of the two companies, we will also strengthen our competitiveness in the global on-device AI market.”
