The Cyprus Shipping Chamber proudly announces that its Director General, Thomas A. Kazakos, has been appointed Secretary General of the International Chamber of Shipping (“ICS) from 1^st April 2025, in replacement of Guy Platten, who is soon retiring.

The selection of Mr. Kazakos amongst other internationally renowned candidates was made following a unanimous decision of the Board of Directors of the Organisation at a special meeting this morning and constitutes a special honour for Cyprus Shipping and Cyprus in general, as this is the first time in the 100+ years of operation of the world’s foremost Shipping Association, that a Cypriot is taking the helm.

ICS, based in London, is the global trade association for shipowners and operators, representing the world’s national shipowner associations with over 80% of the world merchant fleet, in a number of International Intergovernmental Organisations such as, the International Maritime Organization (“IMO”).

The Cyprus Shipping Chamber wishes Mr. Kazakos every success in the big challenge he undertakes at such a critical period for International Shipping and looks forward to working closely with him, in his new capacity and position, to resolve the large number of issues facing the Shipping Industry.
