Mitsui O.S.K. Lines announced its decision to restructure Headquarters of Safety Operations, resulting in changes in the allocation of responsibilities for an executive officer and personnel, effective December 1, 2024.

• ◆  Restructuring of Headquarters of Safety Operations/Establishment of Safety Assurance Unit
  MOL will establish a Safety Assurance Unit within the Headquarters of Safety Operations. The unit will serve as the core of the MOL inspection system, aiming to maintain and improve safety and quality of the group businesses. The MOL Group has been conducting inspections related to group-operated vessels for some time. Through this restructuring, an independent, dedicated and cross-functional new unit will maintain and improve the level of safety in the shipping business. In the future, it also aims to strengthen and integrate quality control in accordance with the diversification of its business areas, including non-shipping businesses.

  This restructuring measures are being implemented as one of the actions under “Safety Infrastructure: Pursuit of the ideal organizational structure and business processes” in the “MOL Group Safety Vision” established and announced by MOL in January 2024.

  As a responsible custodian of a social infrastructure business, the MOL Group shall continue to support people’s day-to-day fundamentals as part of its safety-focused operations, with the goal of protecting people, property, and the environment, while earning the continued trust of the public.

  The duties of the Executive Officer in charge will be changed in accordance with the establishment of the Safety Assurance Unit.

MOL has set “Safety & Value (providing added value through safe transportation and social infrastructure businesses)” as one of its sustainability issues (materiality), and has also placed safety as one of the top priorities in the MOL Group’s “BLUE ACTION 2035” management plan.
In January 2024, it established the Safety Vision, which outlines the MOL Group’s approach and framework for safety, positioned to support “Safety & Value.” The Safety Vision consists of a roof section consisting of “Safety goals” and “What we out to be” and a pillar/foundation section consisting of “Safety measures” and “Safety infrastructure” (collectively, Safety Action 1.0 = Action Plan). The approach is to achieve the “safety goals” and realize “What we ought to be” by implementing the action plan.
