Elomatic, an international consulting and engineering company, warmly welcomes the recent joint statement from leaders of Canada, Finland, and the United States regarding the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort. With the recent expansion of Elomatic’s operations into North America, the industry-leading engineering and consultancy firm is well-positioned to provide advanced expertise to deliver these complex, critical vessels to support this historic initiative.

Over the past 50 years, Elomatic has gained a wealth of experience in this field, and most recently in Canada, through its engineering and consulting partnership with Seaspan’s Vancouver Shipyard (VSY)  to engineer and support the construction of the Canadian Coast Guard’s new flagship vessel, the highly complex Polar Class 2 heavy polar icebreaker, which is due for completion in 2030.

Since working with VSY in 2021, Elomatic has become the lead engineering partner for the Canadian Coast Guard’s flagship Polar Class 2 icebreaker project. The company’s goal is to improve the vessel’s design, ensuring that it is equipped with the latest technology and innovation to support extended and sustainable operations in highly demanding Arctic conditions. In addition to design scope, Elomatic has consulted in digital transformation projects at VSY, including CAD, PDM, MRP, ERP, MES projects, which in turn helped develop VSY’s new planning tools, streamline core shipbuilding processes and modernize production through advanced CAD and information management (IM) solutions. This approach aims to deliver superior operational capability and efficiency in the vessel’s design and construction.

The ICE Pact initiative focuses on three core components: enhanced information exchange, collaboration on workforce development, and an invitation to allies and partners to design and purchase icebreakers built in these nations’ shipyards. This collaboration is not only about building ships but also forging closer security and economic ties through shared expertise and mutual workforce development.

Collaboration is central to Elomatic’s approach, and with a strong presence in both Finland, Canada, and now the company is also seeking business opportunities in USA, the company is uniquely positioned to support the ICE Pact’s objectives and contribute to the development of cutting-edge polar icebreakers that meet the highest standards of excellence.
