HD Hyundai Heavy Industries announced on Oct. 24 that the superintendent of the Polish Naval Academy, Tomasz Szubrycht, visited its headquarters in Ulsan to inspect the company’s submarine technology. This visit is part of Poland’s ongoing efforts to modernize its naval fleet through the ORKA submarine acquisition project.

During the visit, Szubrycht, accompanied by Lee Soo-yeol, superintendent of the Republic of Korea Naval Academy, toured the facilities related to the latest submarines, Shin Chae-ho and Yun Bong-gil, both constructed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The tour provided an in-depth look at the company’s world-class submarine construction capabilities, including their advanced production equipment and comprehensive construction processes.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, a South Korean conglomerate renowned for its shipbuilding prowess, showcased its ability to construct and maintain sophisticated naval vessels. The company highlighted its readiness to support Poland’s security needs, not only through the ORKA project but also in various other fields. Discussions during the visit included plans for the Polish submarine acquisition project and potential collaborations in personnel training and technology development.

Szubrycht expressed his satisfaction with the visit, stating, “It was a valuable opportunity to confirm the ability to perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) of various vessels and to understand the importance of subsequent logistical support.” His remarks underscore the critical role of MRO capabilities in ensuring the operational readiness and longevity of naval vessels.

Joo Won-ho, vice president and head of special ship business at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, emphasized the company’s commitment to Poland’s security. “HD Hyundai Heavy Industries is prepared to be a partner that can play a crucial role in Poland’s security, and this partnership could expand beyond the submarine acquisition project into various other fields,” he said.

The visit follows a Promotion Day event held by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Warsaw, Poland, on Oct. 8, aimed at strengthening their bid for the ORKA project. The event served as a strategic marketing effort to demonstrate the company’s technological capabilities and build relationships with potential clients.

The ORKA project is a significant initiative by the Polish Navy to enhance its maritime defense capabilities through the acquisition of new, advanced submarines. This project is part of Poland’s broader efforts to upgrade its military infrastructure in response to regional security challenges.
