Samsung Heavy Industries announced on Oct. 16 that it is participating in Offshore Korea 2024, held at BEXCO in Busan until Oct. 18, to engage in global cooperation for various eco-friendly products. The Offshore Korea exhibition, the largest marine specialized exhibition in South Korea, features participation from 170 companies across 16 countries.

On this day, Samsung Heavy Industries signed an agreement with the UK classification society Lloyd’s Register (LR) for the conceptual development of a green ammonia floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) facility. Additionally, it entered into an agreement with the French classification society Bureau Veritas (BV) to develop optimal solutions utilizing carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology, demonstrating a broad range of activities.

Green ammonia refers to ammonia produced without carbon emissions using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. Ammonia produced by significantly reducing carbon emissions through the use of carbon capture technology during the production process is referred to as blue ammonia.

Samsung Heavy Industries set up a central exhibition booth, showcasing its self-developed “LNG Liquefaction Process Module SENSE” in a 3D hologram format. The company also introduced an offshore wind model applying new construction methods based on production automation, actively engaging in marketing efforts.

Jang Hae-ki, executive vice president and head of technology development at Samsung Heavy Industries, stated, “We will further strengthen global cooperation to reduce greenhouse gases, focusing our research and development on not only the production and utilization of eco-friendly energy but also on implementing optimal offshore solutions.”

The Offshore Korea exhibition has been a significant event since its inception in 2012, providing a platform for companies and stakeholders from around the world to showcase advancements in marine and offshore technology. This year’s event underscores the global interest in marine innovation and eco-friendly solutions.
