Kawasaki Heavy Industries, announced  that the company’s Robot Division has acquired a certification for the IEC 62443-4-1. This certification, issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission is an international cybersecurity standard that specifies the required processes for secure development of equipment used in industrial automation and control systems. Kawasaki received certification in July this year from the third-party organization TÜV SÜD, which has a comprehensive track record in certification in a wide range of fields, from medical devices to industrial equipment, consumer appliances, automobiles, food products, chemistry, and energy. The certification ceremony took place on September 26, 2024 at Nishi-Kobe Works of the company.

As IoT-related initiatives at manufacturing sites accelerate, cyberattack incidents are also tracking upwards, making cybersecurity measures of ever-increasing importance. In addition, as exemplified by the provisions of the EU Cyber Resilience Act, there is a growing trend to require companies engaged in the development and manufacture of products containing digital elements to strengthen cybersecurity, an area in which Kawasaki has consistently focused.
By applying the newly certified development process to product development in the company’s Robot Division, we will provide our customers with highly reliable products that satisfy even more demanding cybersecurity requirements.
