The President of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber, also under his capacity as Vice-President of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), Mr. Themis Papadopoulos, and General Manager, Mr. Thomas A. Kazakos, represented the Cyprus Shipping Industry at the ICS Board of Directors meeting, held on 10 September 2024, in London.
The discussions focused on the serious security issue in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden due to attacks on ships and seafarers by Houthi rebels and the developments ahead of the next round of International Maritime Organisation (IMO) negotiations on a new package of greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations aimed at further reducing emissions from global shipping. Additionally, there was a discussion on the next steps for the International Chamber of Shipping to further enhance and safeguard global shipping.
