HMM announced on September 9 that it has formed a new cooperative system, the “Premier Alliance,” replacing the existing “THE Alliance.” The new cooperation will include HMM, ONE (Japan), and Yang Ming (Taiwan), the three existing members of THE Alliance. The cooperation period is set to begin in February 2025 and will last for five years.

The main routes of the Premier Alliance will connect East-West routes, including Asia-US West Coast, Asia-US East Coast, Asia-Mediterranean, Asia-Europe, and Asia-Middle East. The service scope and detailed schedule will be announced later.

On the same day, HMM also announced its cooperation with the world’s largest shipping company, Switzerland’s MSC. They plan to cooperate through a slot exchange method on the Asia-Europe route. The regions for slot exchange with MSC will be the Asia-Northern Europe and Mediterranean routes, covering a total of nine services. The cooperation period will be four years starting from February 2025.

Through this slot exchange with MSC on the Europe route, HMM plans to expand its global network coverage and provide direct port services to a broader range of ports.

HMM, a major South Korean shipping company, plays a significant role in international trade. The company is one of the largest container shipping lines in the world. The formation of the Premier Alliance marks a significant restructuring of its shipping alliances.
