E.ON has opened four charging stations on the grounds of the Hamburg Port Authority, directly on the A7 motorway. This is E.ON’s first dedicated charging site in Germany specifically for electric trucks. Each charging bay is equipped with its own 400-kilowatt station, allowing trucks to recharge during the 45-minute break required by law. Depending on the model, this provides enough energy for around 300 kilometres of driving.

The site and the hardware installed are designed to allow the charging stations to be upgraded to megawatt charging in the future. With charging capacities in the megawatt range, this technology will enable even shorter charging times in the future. With a width of three metres and a length of 25 metres, the parking and charging bays are also suitable for articulated lorries, so there is no need to uncouple the trailer or semi-trailer.

Legal rest period ideal for efficient charging stops
When it comes to truck charging stations, we pay special attention to the needs of drivers and transport companies. Our new charging station in Hamburg demonstrates this: convenient charging with enough space for different vehicle types, an easy to find location directly on the motorway and a charging capacity of up to 400 kilowatts per vehicle. This means that the break can be ideally used for quick intermediate charging,’ says Ludolf von Maltzan, Business Manager Germany at E.ON Drive Infrastructure.

More e-truck charging stations planned
Drivers of electric trucks can either start and pay for the charging process using a charging card similar to a petrol card, a charging app or, for ad hoc charging on site, a credit card terminal.

In addition to the new charging stations at the Port of Hamburg, E.ON Drive Infrastructure already operates dedicated e-truck charging stations in Sweden and Denmark. Further charging stations are planned in Germany and other European countries.
